The NeverEnding Story (1984)
Director: Wolfgang Petersen
Starring: Noah Hathaway, Barret Oliver, Tami Stronach
Synopsis:
A boy grieving for his mother and tormented by bullies comes upon a book that is more than it seems.
Impressions:
This movie has a lot of sentimental value to me, so it's hard to take off the nostalgia goggles for this one. Still, to be perfectly blunt, the acting isn't great and the special effects don't hold up very well. That doesn't detract from the imaginative world that's crafted, It's thematic that this film would inspire my own imagination so profoundly. Admitting my own nostalgia filter, I still think the charm shines through. I can't say much for the sequels, but my fond memories of the first entry hold. I recommend watching it at least, but if you're like me, you'll probably want to own it.
