Halloween 5: The Revenge of Michael Myers (1989)

Director: Dominique Othenin-Girard
Starring: Donald Pleasance, Danielle Harris, Ellie Cornell

Synopsis:
After her previous encounter with Michael Myers, Jamie Lloyd is confined to a children's clinic and she is tormented by her connection to Michael as Halloween draws near.

Impressions:
Despite the one-year time skip, this feels as close to the fourth movie and the second one does to the first, which may or may not be a good thing depending on what you thought of the last movie. I'm not exactly sure why the writers decided to pivot from Rachel to new character Tina, but so it goes. I wasn't expecting to rate this too highly, but then the kittens show up and I was about to jokingly bump the rating up a point for that, but actually the second act as a whole was done well enough to warrant that point. Actually, it would've been stronger if the second act was just expanded a little bit to close things out as the third act dragged out a bit. I will give Danielle Harris credit for putting in the work as Jamie, cementing her budding scream queen credentials (and I may have to check out the Rob Zombie entries in the franchise just so I can evaluate how well she does as an adult). The movie has some stuff going for it, but it's still nothing amazing. Take it or leave it.
