The Curse of King Tut's Tomb (1980)

The Curse of King Tut's Tomb (1980)

Director: Philip Leacock
Starring: Eva Marie Saint, Robin Ellis, Raymond Burr

Synopsis:
The excavation of King Tutankhamen's tomb is plagued with tragedy said to be the work of an ancient Egyptian curse.

Impressions:
This is a fairly able dramatization of Howard Carter's discovery of Tutankhamen's tomb. There are a number of fictional elements added to spice up the story and some of it is fairly effective. I particularly liked Raymond Burr as Jonash Sabastian, the primary antagonist, who's decked out like a gay Sith Lord for the third act and it's fabulous. Lord Carnarvon's deathbed hallucination was rather effectively done too. It's not an amazing film and it doesn't have that big of a budget, but it's still pretty good with a lot of nice intrigue going on. It's certainly worth a watch in my book.
