Starcrash (1978)

Synopsis:
A smuggler is recruited by the Emperor to find his son, who went missing on an expedition to uncover the secret weapon of the sinister Count Zarth Arn.
Impressions:
As you probably know, Star Wars was a big hit and when a movie makes it big, the studios rush to copy it and cash in. When you want ripoffs done right, you go to the Italians (using a rather broad definition of "right"). Maybe, just maybe, the prospect of former Bond Girl Caroline Munro gallivanting about in alien worlds in a space bikini is enough for you. If so, have at it. Actually, I found myself liking the dynamic between Stella and Elle and Joe Spinell is fairly amusing as the hammy Zarth Arn. Probably the best thing to come out of this movie was a free vacation to Rome for Christopher Plummer (the sole reason he's in this movie). It's a bad movie but entertainingly bad. If that sounds like something you're up for, give it a watch. Otherwise, drop it like a hot space potato.
