Scars of Dracula (1970)
Director: Roy Ward Baker
Starring: Christopher Lee, Dennis Waterman, Jenny Hanley
Synopsis:
A law student and his girlfriend travel to Dracula's castle in search of his missing brother.
Impressions:
After the mind[freak] [Sierra]show that was Saint Dracula 3D, just about anything else would seem like high cinematic art by comparison. In all honesty, though, this follows the pattern of most of the Hammer Dracula sequels with its flimsy story, thin characters and underutilization of Christopher Lee's talents. There is some decent raw material here, but it doesn't get used to very good effect. While Hammer films are generally known for being rather fanservicey, there seems to be more of it here, which may be enough to pique some viewers' interest. The story seemed well suited for a more seductive take like the '79 version, but instead we got the far less interesting mostly silent monster. If you like the Hammer films, this may be enough for you, but I'm going to have to say take it or leave it.
