Impressions:
It's actually rather surprising how many of Alfred Hitchcock's films I know nothing about. This is one of his last films and it's a rather interesting watch as he's not held back by the usual studio censorship that restrained him for much of his career. As a result, this film is a fair bit cruder, but it's a good match for the tone. Although the presentation may not have as much polish as some of Hitchcock's more famous films, it's very tightly plotted with all the elements falling into place beautifully. Jon Finch is quite good as the lead, but it's Barry Foster who steals the show. The interludes with Chief Inspector Oxford and his wife are amusing. More amusing is how simple and low-key the ending is. If you're in the mood for a good suspense story, this is well worth a watch.
