The Bible: In the Beginning... (1966)

Director: John Huston
Starring: Michael Parks, Ulla Bergryd, Richard Harris

Synopsis:
A series of stories from the Book of Genesis are brought to the silver screen, from Creation to the sacrifice of Isaac.

Impressions:
I'm not going to lie. The sole reason I watched this movie was because I wanted to see George C Scott as Abraham (totally worth it, by the way). There's a kind of magic to the big epic movies of the 60s and that certainly comes across here. All the major episodes up through Genesis 22 get covered here with big sets and some pretty good special effects.

The standout performance for me is of course George C Scott, but no one else's performance struck me as being deficient. There are a lot of big names from the day who show up, so if you're an aficionado of films from this era, you might have fun picking out the familiar faces.

While this film doesn't have the same cultural impact as The Ten Commandments, for instance, it isn't bad. Unless you're just violently opposed to Biblical subject matter, it's a decent watch.
