Sanjuro (1962)

Director: Akira Kurosawa
Starring: Toshiro Mifune, Tatsuya Nakadai, Keiju Kobayashi

Synopsis:
A ronin gets involved when an official is falsely accused of corruption because the official's nephew and friends would get themselves killed without his help.

Impressions:
Akira Kurosawa wasn't known for making sequels to his films, but this was one of the few exceptions. While definitely inferior to the original, it's still an entertaining film. It almost feels like an episode of Mito Komon, but I guess a lot of jidaigeki have a similar feel. Besides Mifune's ronin, the rest of the cast doesn't stand out much with the exceptions of Tatsuya Nakadai as Muroto and Takako Irie as the chamberlain's wife. If you're a jidaigeki fan, you'll enjoy it, so give it a watch.
