Destroy All Monsters (1968)

Director: Ishiro Honda
Starring: Akira Kubo, Yukiko Kobayashi, Kyoko Ai

Synopsis:

The world seems safe as Godzilla and the other kaijuu are safely sequestered on Monster Island, but the control systems are sabotaged by an alien menace, unleashing them on a rampage of mass destruction.

Impressions:
As the Showa Era of the Godzilla franchise progressed, diminishing returns put its future in doubt, and at the time, it looked like it might be curtains, so they decided to go out with a bang (and then they made six more movies). Dang near all the Toho kaijuu are here to one degree or another. The human plot is yet another alien invasion story, so nothing too terribly exciting. On the other hand, you get a lot more kaijuu carnage than some of the previous films, so that helps. The main highlight is the big final battle with King Ghidorah, who seemed to think that taking on all the inhabitants of Monster Island at once was a good idea. It goes about as well for him as you'd imagine. Even frickin' Minilla contributes to his humiliation, so look forward to that. (Friggin' Minilla...) I think there's enough spectacle to warrant a watch but not much more than that. Take it or leave it.
