The Tingler (1959)

The Tingler (1959)

Director: William Castle
Starring: Vincent Price, Judith Evelyn, Darryl Hickman

Synopsis:
A doctor obsessed with fear performs dangerous and increasingly unethical experiments to prove his theories.

Impressions:
This movie would be fairly forgettable as 50s schlock horror except for Vincent Prince, who can make just about anything watchable, and the gimmick in the theaters at the time. For those of you who don't know, they'd install buzzers in the seats to simulate the eponymous critter and at the climax of the film, you'd have the screen go dark and Vincent Price urge the audience to scream to ward off the on-the-loose Tingler. Yes, it's kinda dumb, but if you have an interest in this period of horror, it's worth seeing. On its own merits, though, it's a bit on the weak side, so without the aforementioned interest, you may not want to pass.
