Operation Petticoat (1959)

Operation Petticoat (1959)

Director: Blake Edwards
Starring: Cary Grant, Tony Curtis, Joan O'Brien

Synopsis:
A hastily repaired submarine with a skeleton crew limps its way to a safe port, picking up a group of stranded Army nurses and dodging the Japanese Navy along the way.

Impressions:
There were a number of memorable military comedies in the postwar years and this is one of the best examples of the subgenre. It's smartly written with great performances by the lead duo of Cary Grant and Tony Curtis with plenty of colorful side characters to spice things up. The comedic setup of putting a bunch of women on a submarine is fertile ground and it's played to the hilt. If you're looking for some laughs, I highly recommend it.
