The Curse of the Cat People (1944)

The Curse of the Cat People (1944)

Director: Gunther von Fritsch, Robert Wise
Starring: Simone Simon, Kent Smith, Jane Randolph

Synopsis:
The daughter of Oliver Reed befriends an eccentric recluse and starts to have visions of his first wife Irena.

Impressions:
Cat People wasn't exactly remarkable enough to warrant a sequel, but they made one anyway. A number of the original cast return and Oliver Reed becomes an even worse character than he was in the previous movie. Seriously, he had to be a contender for the 1944 Gendou Ikari Parenting Award. The writer for this is DeWitt Bodeen, who also wrote Bedlam, which I watched recently. The man has a talent for writing fairly boring stories about unlikable people. I really can't think of anything redeeming about this film. Chances are, the dad will infuriate you to the point where you don't care about anything else. Spare yourself and skip on this.
