Captain Kidd (1945)
Director: Rowland V Lee
Starring: Charles Laughton, Randolph Scott, Barbara Britton
Synopsis:
The notorious pirate Captain Kidd turns privateer and assembles a crew of condemned men as a pretext to claim buried treasure in Madagascar.
Impressions:
I didn't need much excuse to see Charles Laughton on the high seas. This is a decent pirate yarn and Laughton is entertaining as a rather slick operator and Randolph Scott is decent as the crewman with his own agenda. The overall story isn't that great, but it is kinda interesting watching the crewmen in the know about the treasure getting picked off one by one. This is the sort of movie that you won't mind watching but you don't have all that much reason to go out of your way for it. Weigh your decision accordingly. It's in the public domain, so that makes it easy to access. The convenience factor may give you extra reason to give it a shot.
