The Mummy (1932)

Synopsis:
The mummy of an Egyptian priest comes to life and seeks out the reincarnation of his lost love.

Impressions:
Being underwhelmed by Dracula and Frankenstein, I wasn't expecting that much from this film, but I wound up being surprised. It's actually one of the better entries in the major Universal horror films. (This is particularly ironic given what I say in my review of Hammer's The Mummy, which I wrote over a year earlier.) Boris Karloff gets to make the most of his acting abilities as Imhotep and the real-world subtext with the supposed curse of Tutankhamen adds a layer of interest. It's good stuff. Give it a watch.
