Horse Feathers (1932)
Director: Norman Z McLeod
Starring: Groucho Marx, Chico Marx, Harpo Marx
Synopsis:
The new president of a college tries to improve the school's football team while his son courts a college widow.
Impressions:
Academia was no less ripe for lampooning 80 years ago than it is today and that contributes a lot to this movie's humor. Unlike some of the Marx Brothers' movies, boring side characters are minimized, which means that pretty much the entire screentime is devoted to their antics, which is exactly what makes for a good Marx Brothers movie. I'd say this one is second only to Duck Soup among the Marx Brothers movies I've seen thus far. Poor Zeppo doesn't get much to do, but the other three brothers are in fine form here. There are plenty of laughs to be have and I definitely recommend giving this one a watch.
