Arsène Lupin (1932)

Arsène Lupin (1932)

Director: Jack Conway
Starring: John Barrymore, Lionel Barrymore, Karen Morley

Synopsis:
Inspector Guerchard is given an ultimatum to catch the notorious thief Arsene Lupin or be fired, so he sets a trap that even Lupin cannot possibly escape.

Impressions:
I'll admit it, it's because of Lupin III that the original got my attention. (I'm sure that wouldn't amuse Maurice Leblanc any.) The Barrymore Brothers deliver a strong showing as Lupin and Guerchard. The plot is fairly clever and there are some good twists along the way. There's also some fairly amusing comedy as well. If you want to see a gentleman thief in action, this is a film well worth seeing.
