Girlfriend, Girlfriend (2020)
[γ«γγΈγ§γε½Όε₯³]
Volume 3
Author/Artist: Hiroyuki
Publisher: Kodansha Comics Magazine
Synopsis:
Saki and Nagisa decide to step up their game to counteract Milika's influence on Naoya.
Story/Characters:
The art of seduction really isn't the girls' strong suit (especially Saki, but that's the best part). Milika is falling harder and harder for Naoya and so he tries to work harder to put Saki at ease. However, he then has to balance the equation with Nagisa and poor Saki thinks she's awakening to an NTR fetish (until she delivers the inevitable megaton punch to Naoya). A new strategy is in order and Saki declares that the reason for Milika's attention is because she's in heat and Naoya, being an idiot, buys it hook, line and sinker. Also, being an idiot, he goes to confront Milika about this, which causes further escalation to where Milika has what I call her Nino moment (referring to The Quintessential Quintuplets), that she then doubles-down on. If this wasn't enough, Saki's friend Shino is catching on to all this, adding another wrinkle. To Naoya's credit, he recognizes the damage and works to improve things by proposing a trip for three. That would be too easy, of course, so there are a couple spoilers waiting in the wings. It's a pretty good setup to lead us into the next volume.
Art:
Besides the usual physical comedy, there's some nice punch to the big Milika moments. (I may not like the character, but I can't deny the visuals are putting in the work.)
Conclusion:
There's a lot of Milika focus this volume, which isn't what I prefer, but overall I'm enjoying how things are progressing. The setup leading into the onsen trip is well-done, which has me excited for the next volume. Give this one a read.
