The Quintessential Quintuplets - Volume 14 (2020)

Author/Artist: Negi Haruba
Publisher: Shounen Magazine Comics

Synopsis:
Fuutarou makes his choice among the Nakano Sisters, but it's a little too early to start ringing the wedding bells.

Story/Characters:
We've got a whole volume to fill, so surely you weren't expecting us to cut straight to the wedding and that be it, right? Yes, things don't go quite as smoothly as Fuutarou probably was expecting. Given her personality, Yotsuba has trouble accepting Fuutarou and when she does, there's the matter of settling things with her sisters. No points for guessing who proves to be the hardest case. It is interesting seeing how they all come to terms with the decision and once all that gets settled, we cut ahead five years to the day of the wedding. It's nice seeing how the girls have grown in this time. They've got one final curveball up their sleeves, which gives us the opportunity to wrap things up with each of them. Then it's the author's turn to try to pull a fast one on us. (Apparently Haruba is known for doing this sort of thing, but I haven't read any of his other works.) I obviously can't speak for anyone else, but I feel that regardless of which sister you were rooting for, the conclusion is rather satisfying.

Art:
The quality of the art doesn't let up for the grand finale. We get several really nice two-page spreads to really punctuate some of the big emotional moments. Good stuff from start to finish.

Other:
We get a two-page omake that acts as something of a stinger for the final chapter. It nicely turns around the last line.

Conclusion:
This series has been a treat to read from start to finish. More romcoms should probably take a page or two from Haruba's playbook. Without even the slightest reservation, I highly recommend this and indeed the entire series to anyone who wants a good story. Get this one for your collection.
