We Never Learn (2018)
[γΌγγγ‘γ―εεΌ·γγ§γγͺγ]
Volume 6
Author/Artist: Taishi Tsutsui
Publisher: Jump Comics
Synopsis:
Takemoto takes Yuiga to their old middle school for a nighttime visit.
Story/Characters:
We get a nice little chapter with Yuiga and Takemoto that looks at their past. (Too bad "Status Quo is God" generally applies in this series or this might indicate a step forward in their relationship.) Next is a silly gag chapter where grades and cup size get confused (which is what kicks of Season 2 of the TV series). We follow it with a two-parter that introduces Kurisu-sensei's kid sister Miharu (whose quirk is starting statements with four-character expressions as opposed to the two-character compounds favored by her elder sister). After that, we get an outside perspective on Yuiga from some of his classmates at cram school. Long live the Shadow Emperor. Next is the beach episode two-parter that should satisfy both Sensei and Senpai fans (which was made into a separate OAV). Next is an onsen chapter with wacky hijinx that I kinda like just because of how Yuiga and the core trio interact in it. Lastly we have Rizurin (Ogata) with a bad haircut. It's cute. All told, nothing major in the way of progress. Probably the biggest thing is that Yuiga and the trio start to address each other by their first names a little more often. (Yes, Takemoto had been doing it from the start, but now the other two are getting in on it more. I suppose by Japanese standards that is a big step.)
Art:
The art is good as ever and particularly fanservice dense in a series that already has a fairly high fanservice quotient by default. I'm sure it's right up the alley for most fans, but it can get a little gratuitous, especially when the camera is going right up Kurisu-sensei's back alley. Regarding Ogata's bad haircut chapter, normally I don't like really short straight bangs but somehow she makes it work. Credit to Tsutsui for making a hairstyle I don't like actually seem appealing.
Conclusion:
Besides the first chapter of the volume, it's mostly just comedy and fanservice, but I suppose that's what you're here for. If you've been enjoying yourself so far, you should continue to do so. Give it a read.
