Yotsuba&! (2006)
[よつばと!]
Volume 5
Author/Artist: Kiyohiko Azuma
Publisher: Dengeki Comics
Synopsis:
Yotsuba meets the ecologically friendly robot Danbo.
Story/Characters:
While every volume in this series is loaded with goodness, there are some particular highlights to this one. The chapter with Danbo the robot does a nice job of demonstrating Ena's maturity for her age and a rather surprising measure of sensitivity on Miura's part (though I think this largely comes at Ena's direction). The interaction between Yotsuba and Danbo is really good. Even better is the on-page debut of the legendary rivalry between Yotsuba and Yanda. The way those two go at it is hilarious. The trip to the beach is also quite good. The way Fuuka joins in the dramatic entry pose with Koiwai and Yotsuba is good stuff.
Art:
You know what to expect. High quality stuff. I want to give particular note to the great detail put into the beach scenes. It's really quite impressive.
Conclusion:
This volume has more of the goodness you expect plus it kicks off one of the funniest relationships in the series, the Yotsuba/Yanda rivalry. As always, this one definitely belongs in the collection.
