Ranma 1/2 (1996)
[らんま1/2]
Volume 37
Author/Artist: Rumiko Takahashi
Publisher: Shounen Sunday Comics
Synopsis:
Ranma and the gang travel to China after learning Jusenkyou has gone dry and must battle the bird people of Mt. Phoenix.
Story/Characters:
We close the series with one final battle epic that spans most of the remaining two volumes. In some respects, it feels a bit like a retread of the Musk Dynasty arc, but there's more than enough original material to make this worthwhile. I'm not that big a fan of Saffron as the big bad and Korma and Masala are just dumb flunkies, but Keema is a great villain. Honestly, she's a big part of what makes this arc so compelling. Most of the cool stuff that happens is her work.
Art:
I rather like Keema's design and Plum is cute as a button. As you might imagine for the last big battle epic, there are some good action sequences to be had.
Conclusion:
Largely thanks to Keema, the penultimate volume in the series is definitely worth adding to the collection. There are a lot of good twists and turns to keep you hooked. It's a fine way to draw the series to a close.
