Ranma 1/2 - Volume 17 (1991)

Author/Artist: Rumiko Takahashi
Publisher: Shounen Sunday Comics

Synopsis:
Ranma struggles to master the technique of Gourmet de Foie Gras in order to defeat Picolet. Nabiki replaces Akane as Ranma's fiancée. Ranma goes on a date with a cursed painting.

Story/Characters:
The Martial Arts Dining story ends decently enough and the cursed painting is an amusing one-shot, but the real highlight of this volume is the Nabiki story. Even if you know it's going to be temporary, the shakeup does a lot for the characters. Ranma is an insensitive jackass as usual and Nabiki is pretty much the Devil incarnate, but I guess we don't read this series for socially well-adjusted individuals.

Art:
You know what to expect from the art, but I want to point out some particularly nice panels from the Nabiki story.

Conclusion:
It's all about the fiancée swap here, folks. Ranma and Nabiki are both terrible human beings, but, man, is it ever entertaining to see how it plays out.
