Macross 7 Trash (1999)
[マクãƒã‚¹7 トラッシュ]
Volume 7
Author/Artist: Haruhiko Mikimoto
Publisher: Kadokawa Comics A
Synopsis:
Shiba's opponent pays him a visit before his match.
Story/Characters:
We're of course building up to a final showdown between Shiba and Jebiru, but before that, he has one more match to go. I did rather like the character of Marvin (surely not his original Zentradi name) and thought he was used fairly effectively both on the Shiba and Jebiru sides of the story. The B plot with Enika, however, was less compelling. If she was more invested in her musical career, if it actually meant something, we might care a little, but that's not the case. Also, her producer is such an a-hole that if you even remotely like Enika, you'd much rather see her doing just about anything else.
Art:
You already know what I'm going to say about the art. With Shiba's practice and his match with Marvin, we get some nice dynamic panels.
Other:
We get three intermissions this time around. The first has Pasha watching Hoshimaru, with the punchline being that Hoshimaru doesn't realize she's a girl. The second is a look at Enika's past, leading us to the current point of drama. The last one has Enika on the town after she lost her voice.
Conclusion:
I'll give this one credit for how it handled Marvin, making for one of the more satisfying matches in the story. The rest isn't too great, but if you've come this far, you'll probably at least want to give this one a read.
