Marooned (1969)

Marooned (1969)

Director: John Sturges
Starring: Gregory Peck, Richard Crenna, David Janssen

Synopsis:
A malfunction on a space capsule leaves three astronauts stranded in orbit and NASA must scramble to come up with a solution before their oxygen runs out.

Impressions:
It's ironic that this movie came out four months before Apollo 13. I wonder if it was on people's minds when that was going down. Anyway, this is a fairly taut film. Richard Crenna is particularly good in this and Gregory Peck is solid as well. It won an Oscar for special effects and while I'd say it's not quite up to the level of the previous year's 2001: A Space Odyssey, it's still not too shabby. If you like space disaster and want to see an example from when the space program was in full swing, give this one a watch.
