The Final Countdown (1980)
Director: Don Taylor

Synopsis:
The USS Nimitz is caught in a temporal vortex and finds itself sent back to the day before the Pearl Harbor attack.
Impressions:
I found out about this movie after seeing GATE and I was curious to see how the subject matter was handled. I was expecting triumphalist wish fulfillment (which, ironically, would put it more in line with GATE), but that wasn't the case. There's some serious wrangling about what should be done in the situation and I found it interesting that it was the civilian contractor who was most eager to run wild with their modern technology. I won't say what kind of time travel system is at work here or else it'll spoil the plot. The depiction of carrier operations is solid and I particularly liked the core trio in the command staff of the Captain, the XO and the CAG. It's definitely worth a watch.
