Spider-Man: Far From Home (2019)

Spider-Man: Far From Home (2019)

Director: Jon Watts
Starring: Tom Holland, Samuel L Jackson, Jake Gyllenhaal

Synopsis:
Peter Parker struggles to readjust to life after the defeat of Thanos, going on a school trip to Europe when a new threat emerges.

Impressions:
This movie had the daunting task of following up Endgame. Unlike the transition from Civil War to Homecoming, it feels much more jarring to bring down the scale and not everyone will go for Peter's efforts to step down after facing a threat on the scale of Thanos. While I was far more impressed with Michael Keaton's Vulture from the previous film, Jake Gyllenhaal's Mysterio is quite good and there is a good dynamic going on with him and Peter. Fans of Spider-Man as a character may not like how much this incarnation exists in the shadow of Iron Man and how this inhibits his development as his own character. Overall, this isn't as solid as Homecoming, but like most Marvel solo outings, it's definitely worth a watch.
