Impressions:
You know that I had my issues with the first season, not all of them having to do with the adaptation itself, so I was a bit reluctant to keep going. This season very much continues in the vein of the first. You have some truly brilliant character work with beautiful animation (to include positively stunning action set pieces) but also some unsavory elements that detract from what would otherwise be an overwhelmingly positive experience. I mean, the first cour has Rudy faffing about trying to cure a case of ED rather than focus on rescuing his mother. It does provide the opportunity for him to reconnect with Sylphie, but he still looks like a jackwagon for giving his equipment failure priority over his mother (though it is a point that he doesn't really regard Paul and Zenith as his parents, not that he got on all that well with his folks in his previous life). By comparison, the second cour has a much better focus, starting with Rudy taking in his sisters and later joining in on the quest to save his mother. Once the dungeon crawl proper begins, I really like how the party dynamics are handled. I also appreciate that things don't go easily and aren't without a price. There are some other complaints I have, but I don't want to go any further into spoiler territory than I already have. If you were a fan of the previous season, you should like this as well, especially once you've gotten through to the end. If you weren't so positively disposed toward it, I don't think this season will turn you around. Overall, however, I'll recommend it for a watch because the good is very good and my complaints weren't enough to offset that.
