Synopsis:
The USNA's top strategic-class mage is sent undercover to Japan as an exchange student with the mission of hunting down deserters from her unit and neutralizing the mage responsible for the Scorched Halloween incident.

Impressions:
This season covers the Visitor Arc of the original novels. For anime-only viewers watching in release order, this season provides much needed context for the character of Lina, who featured prominently in the movie. I like the idea of setting up a counterpart to Tatsuya, but of course she can't pose a serious threat to him (or Miyuki either, for that matter). Still, even if we don't have a proper challenge for our protagonist, there is some interesting character stuff going on. I also like the concept of the Parasites as non-human, non-corporeal entities that operate on a blue and orange morality. It would've been nice to develop the idea further. I think now that the initial novelty has worn off, the weaknesses of the series are starting to show more. I was still invested, though, and I'm willing to see more. Hopefully it's not another six years until the follow-up. If you were a fan of the first season, I think you'll like this well enough to give it a watch.
