Shocker (1989)

Shocker (1989)

Director: Wes Craven
Starring: Michael Murphy, Mitch Pileggi, Peter Berg

Synopsis:
A serial continues to torment a football player after being sent to the electric chair.

Impressions:
This is one of those movies I always saw in the video store but because I was such a coward as a kid, never watched. Interestingly enough, this was supposed to kick off a new franchise and you can definitely see the setup for a Nightmare on Elm Street-type scenario. Mitch Pileggi gives a strong performance as the vicious, vulgar killer (as different as night and day from Director Skinner for you X Files fans out there). I wasn't a huge fan of the main character, but I'll admit to a personal bias against jock characters. If you're familiar with the work of Wes Craven, you have some idea what you're getting into. It's not great, but it's good enough to warrant a watch if you like this sort of thing. If the story of a serial killer with a supernatural twist doesn't appeal to you, you won't be missing much.
