Impressions:
I'd heard the Psycho-Pass series goes downhill after the first season and while I agree this season is inferior to its predecessor, it does have a lot going for it. I like how Tsunemori has grown into her role as a more seasoned Inspector without sacrificing a lot of the qualities that make her unique as a character. I also like how her relationship with Ginoza has developed now that he's been demoted to Enforcer. The Tsunemori-Kougami dynamic was a big part of the original appeal of the series and without that, there's a lot less wind in the sails. Shimotsuki, the junior Inspector, is insufferable, always second-guessing Tsunemori, showing nothing but contempt for the Enforcers and focusing more on her own Hue than her duty to serve and protect the public. I understand her function in the story, but there was a far more reasonable antagonistic dynamic between Tsunemori and Ginoza in the previous season. Speaking of antagonism, our "villain" Kamui is far more empathic than Makishima but still all too capable of cruelty to achieve his goals. While it's interesting watching him conduct his experiments to build up to the execution of his master plan, he isn't nearly as compelling as his predecessor. Really, that's the whole thing. I do think this is pretty good and worth seeing, but it's just not as good as what came before and that may make it seem that much worse in your eyes. Give it a shot, though, even if you wish you could use a Dominator on friggin' Shimotsuki.
