Impressions:
Needless to say, I was surprised that they didn't even wait a year before releasing another season of the series. (If not for the numbering, I'd consider Overlord II and III to be one 26-episode season with a mid-season hiatus.) Anyway, we start out with side characters much like last season and while it may be frustrating to have the focus off Ainz, it is nice to see characterization given to what are usually disposable mobs in RPGs (Goblins this season compared to Lizardmen last season). We get to see more of the Floor Guardians developing beyond their initial programming to the point where Ainz is effectively just along for the ride. Given there is so little direct challenge for Ainz, the fact that he's trapped in his role with plots that are expanding beyond his intentions create some interest. The Baharuth Empire gets more focus and there are some interesting things going on there. I have some hopes for where things go with Emperor Jircniv. All told, I was satisfied with how the story is developing. I'd like to see Ainz face some setbacks in the future, but that may not be in the cards. If you're a fan of the series, it's well worth staying along for the ride.
