Big Trouble (2002)

Impressions:
I'm a fan of Dave Barry, so the fact that this movie is based on a novel of his is enough to get my attention. I didn't know that when I first saw it, nor had I seen Get Shorty by director Barry Sonnenfeld before, but I can see elements of both Barry's humor and the general style of Get Shorty here. If you've seen Get Shorty and liked it, this is something of a spiritual successor. It's an off-kilter film that takes advantage of its strong ensemble cast to deliver a fun ride where quirky characters and conflicting plots collide with hilarious results. The whole cast works really well, but among my favorites are Stanley Tucci as the sleazy Herk and Dennis Farina as the hitman. The humor may not be for everyone, but I really enjoyed it and highly recommend giving it a watch.
