Psycho-Pass 3: First Inspector (2020)

Synopsis:
As Kei is recruited by Bifrost, Kochi Azusawa launches an attack on the Public Safety Bureau's headquarters.

Impressions:
Although released as a theatrical film, this is split into three 45-minute episodes, presumably for later rebroadcasting purposes. Regardless, this gives us closure for Season 3. Honestly, with its three-episode structure, you can just chalk it up to being a higher budget version of the last stretch of the season. Setting that aside, there is some clumsiness with the plotting, but we have a fairly decent Die Hard-style scenario with HQ under attack from within and our gang trying to outfox Azusawa. The cat-and-mouse play works fairly well and we get quite a few good action set pieces (including an epic Pillbug fight, if that can be believed). I feel Azusawa degrades a bit at the end, much as Tougane did in Season 2, which feels like a waste of his character. I guess we're never going to get a villain to top Makishima. Anyway, we close one what could be a decent sendoff for the series while still keeping the door open for a continuation if that happens to be in the cards. I won't call this film perfect, but if you want to see how Season 3 ends, you'll surely want to see it.
