Impressions:
This just happened to be on TV one day. Otherwise, I doubt I would've seen it. The movie created quite a bit of controversy for casting Emma Stone as part Hawaiian, part Chinese character. I'm not even going to bother with that. You'd think the prospect of Emma Stone in an Air Force uniform would be enough to make people happy (even if she can't seem to remember her daggone cover most of the time). This is a very muddled movie and I can really say much positive about the story or characterization. I did like the wordless conversation between Gilcrest and Woody at the end with helpful subtitles, but that's about it. Alec Baldwin also had a pretty good one scene wonder, somewhat reminiscent of his appearance in Glengarry Glen Ross. It really felt like the movie could've stood to focus more on one plot thread or the other. My inclination is to tell you to pass on it, but you may find some redeeming value.
