Impressions:
I'm not the only person who's been less than impressed with a lot of Pixar's recent output and apparently they're conscious of that, which leads us to this film. Have they won back the crowd? Well, I can't speak for anyone else, but I was pleased with what I got. This is easily the best Pixar film since Up and it's just in time because my confidence in them was dipping fairly low. Sure, they've always maintained high standards on a technical level, but what always made Pixar's work superlative was their skill in crafting stories and characters. That's back in full force here with an inventive take on psychology with a good lesson in the end. Although there are good performances all around, I want to give particular credit to Amy Poehler as Joy, Phyllis Smith as Sadness and Lewis Black as Anger. There are some cool things done with the visuals, good humor and some effective feels. I certainly recommend it. If you've been harboring some doubts about Pixar lately, set those aside and give this a watch.
