Hell Up in Harlem (1973)
Director: Larry Cohen
Starring: Fred Williamson, Julius Harris, Gloria Hendry
Synopsis:
Harlem gangster Tommy Gibbs rebuilds his criminal empire with the help of his father.
Impressions:
Given that this is the sequel to Black Caesar, I probably should've seen that movie first, but you don't really need the events of the first film for context. The thing I liked best about this movie was the dynamics between Tommy and his father (played by Julius Harris). I also liked Tony King as ambitious up-and-comer Zach. It a pretty good blaxploitation gangster flick. I don't know quite how it stacks up to the original, but I liked it. Give it a watch.
