Godzilla vs. Kong (2021)
Director: Adam Wingard
Starring: Alexander Skarsgård, Millie Bobby Brown, Rebecca Hall
Synopsis:
As Godzilla starts rampaging, a plan is hatched to use King Kong as a guide to the Hollow Earth, where there is an energy source that may give humanity a fighting chance against the Titan.
Impressions:
The previous Monsterverse film gave us some good monster fights stitched together in a rather weak plot. As such, I wasn't expecting much from this film either. The plot's a little better here, more so the A Plot with the expedition to Hollow Earth than the B Plot trying to expose Apex's plans, but the main thing audiences are here for is the monster fights. We get two main Godzilla vs. Kong fights and then one final rumble with a special guest star I won't spoil (though you may already know who it is). Several sequences felt like they belonged in a Universal Studios ride, which is fine if you're just here for the spectacle but may be disappointing if you were hoping for a little more substance (you silly person, you). Even if this is just an amusement park ride, it was one I enjoyed well enough, enough for me to say this is worth a watch.
