American Cyborg: Steel Warrior (1993)

Synopsis:
The last fertile woman in a postwar wasteland must escape to Europe, but there are a lot of hazards on the way to the only port out and a ruthless cyborg is hot on her trail.

Impressions:
I can't believe this movie was made in '93. It looks like mid-80s vintage. Although not released under the Golan-Globus label, you'll find both Yoram Globus and Menahem Golan among the executive producers, so that should already set your expectations about where they need to be. Really, I think the title alone should give you an idea of what to expect. This was their last collaboration and the final theatrical release for the Cannon Group. They're consistent if nothing else. This is a cheap mishmash of The Terminator and Hell Comes to Frogtown. The leads are neither good actors nor particularly compelling characters (though it would seem that they want you to give Nicole Hansen a pass by virtue of her low-cut tanktop), but John Saint Ryan was okay as the enemy cyborg. The makeup effects on the mutants aren't all that bad either. (The animatronics for the fetus, however, are freaky as all get out.) The score is super cheesy, so it fits the movie like a glove. If you're in the mood for some schlock to serve as prime riffing material, Steel American Cyborg Warrior (you'll get the joke when you see the title card) may be the film for you, but if watching bad movies for fun isn't your thing, avoid this one.
