Impressions:
I enjoyed the previous season quite a bit and was looking forward to the continuation. Unfortunately, the plot is left spinning its tires somewhat. The main external conflict is wrapping up and Sei is mostly shielded from the court politics surrounding her, so she doesn't really get to face any of that head-on. Some viewers have stated frustration that she doesn't really meet the social tangle she finds herself in as a proper adult, but for a Japanese woman of her circumstances, it's actually not that unrealistic how she reacts to things. Of course, just because it's not unrealistic doesn't mean it's not frustrating. It'd be nice if both she and Albert were more forthright, but we do close on a satisfying note. From the first season, I could see the elements of a reverse harem being set up and it gets played up a bit this season as talk of marrying off Sei rises to prominence, but it's still quite understated. I wouldn't have been opposed to a little more romantic drama, but I guess that wasn't what the author was going for. If you don't like romantic tangles in your stories, you might actually find the presentation here refreshing. There are some nice moments, but we don't do nearly enough to build on the world and the characters, so you may find yourself frustrated like many other viewers. I can't endorse this quite as strongly as the previous season, but it's still worth a watch (and the finale is a pretty solid payoff if you're a fan).
