Magical Destroyers (2023)

Director: Hiroshi Ikehata
Studio: Bibury Animation Studios
Starring: Makoto Furukawa, Fairouz Ai, Aimi
Episodes: 12

Synopsis:
The leader of the otaku resistance reassembles his team of magical girls for a new offensive against the oppressive SSC.

Impressions:
At first, the basic premise resembled Rumble Garanndoll but with magical girls instead of mechas and not touching on heavy topics the writers weren't prepared to deal with. There was also a bit of a FLCL feel with its chaotic humor and character designs that resemble the work of Yoshiyuki Sadamoto. We even get a Gainax ending. Given that I just said that, you can tell that things go off the rails a bit (more so than it was doing already) at the end. You probably won't be satisfied with how it ends, but maybe some of the chuckles you get earlier on will be enough to make the experience feel worthwhile. I'm not particularly angry at the series like some viewers, but it is a bit of a mixed bag overall and definitely not for general audiences even when it's at its best. If you like off-kilter mindscrew stories or are just feeling a bit adventurous, you may want to check it out. Otherwise, pass on it.
