Impressions:
I don't think I read anything about this series before checking it out. I did stumble across the ED on Youtube, but that in no way gives you an idea of what the series is about. In part, it's a shounen battle series in the vein of Dragon Ball Z, but there's more to it than that and that's what held my interest. One thing is the mindset of the Idaten. Their job is to protect humanity, but they don't care about individual humans in the slightest. They're largely amoral and detached from human values. This actually leaves the demons who have hybridized themselves with humans more relatable, even though they have no compunctions about doing all manner of horrors to perpetuate their species. Speaking of horrors, graphic violence and other activities happen quite casually and many cases where other authors would relent, there's no hesitation. It definitely leaves an impression, but as a result it's going to turn some people off. If you're curious, give the first episode a try and decide whether or not you'd like to keep going from there. The season ends inconclusively and earlier than usual, apparently because the showrunners caught up with the manga. With the proviso that this isn't going to be everyone's cup of tea, I'm going to recommend giving it a watch.
