Impressions:
I came across this series pretty much by accident. I'm a fan of Kyoto Animation's work, but I have yet to make a concerted effort to work my way through their filmography. If you're at all familiar with KyoAni's reputation, then you know that gorgeous animation and dynamic action set pieces can be expected. Add in a cast of appealing characters from both a design and narrative perspective and you've got yourself a winner. Or at least you think you would. I was surprised that this apparently wasn't very popular and isn't regarded that favorably. It's not especially deep, but I certainly found it enjoyable, light entertainment. It's mostly a monster-of-the-week story with a ramped-up two-parter at the end to go out with a bang. I've heard some people complain about the fanservicey aspect of the show, but I'd just come off the Grisaia series, so this series is so tame it hardly registered. Anyway, I'm glad I watched it and it's a pity there won't be more. As far as I'm concerned, it's worth a slot in your collection.
