Impressions:
I was looking into the other work by Haganai's author Yomi Hirasaka and I came upon this series. I'd seen the title before but passed it over, thinking it was just another creepo siscon story, only giving it a shot based on Hirasaka's cred from his earlier series. So the title is the first normie filter and the opening scene is the second. Apparently a lot of people get put off right away and drop it on the spot. I was nearly one of those people, but I stuck around. I kept on thinking I'd drop it, only to watch episode after episode until about the halfway point when I finally committed to seeing the whole thing. The series reminds me of The Comic Artist and His Assistant where we take a look at a side of the publishing industry via a perverted main character and his quirky colleagues. The sophomoric ecchi fanservice feels mostly like groundling appeal for a wider audience than just people who are interested in the industry. The main character's perversion and ego are likely to be a turnoff for many, but I found the character dynamics strong enough to mostly overlook it. We only get a portion of the overall story in these twelve episodes and as of yet there's no sign of a continuation in the offing, so if you want more, you'll have to refer to the original source.
I'm a bit conflicted about how to rate this one. There are offputting elements that really should knock it down a peg, but if I could give Manashi a pass, it would only be fair to do the same here. I'm just narrowly going to recommend it for a watch, but if you have a low tolerance for ecchi, you're probably going to want to pass.
