Impressions:
This started around the same time as Sounan Desu Ka? (Are You Lost?), so there were two series with different takes on a survivalist theme. In the case of this series, the focus was building up technology starting from a Stone Age level. While some liberties are taken, a lot of attention is paid to the science and that's the main draw of the series. The main plotline is fairly standard shounen fare, but when action comes into play, it's fairly well done. I'm not much of a fan of the character designs, which would normally be a dealbreaker for me, but the gimmick was a big enough draw to keep me engaged. If the gimmick works for you, it should be an enjoyable watch. Give it a shot.
