Gridman Universe (2023)
Director: Akira Amemiya
Starring: Chika Anzai, Miyuu Ayase, Nobutoshi Canna
Synopsis:
As Yuta copes with his memory loss after being separated from Gridman, worlds collide as a new threat emerges.
Impressions:
While I enjoyed both Gridman and Dynazenon quite a bit, and I know Trigger would certainly be able to deliver a show worthy of the big screen, I didn't feel any strong compulsion to see this in theaters, but I'm glad that I did manage to pick this up on one of my international flights. The crossover idea is a neat concept, but there are simply too many characters than the writers can juggle effectively. I did like Yomogi and Yume acting as an example for Yuta and Rikka for what could come of their relationship if they were willing to go forward with it. There's some nice gattai action and if you're a fan of both shows, the whole outing makes for some decent fanservice, but I wasn't bowled over by the story. I think it's worth watching, but I can't give it a stronger recommendation than that.
