Impressions:
After hearing all the bad press this movie got, I wasn't all that eager to see it, but I was willing to give it a chance. While it isn't quite as good as Days of Future Past, it's still one of the better films in the X-franchise. It's definitely not worse than X3 or X-Men Origins, regardless of what critical reception or box office returns may tell you. I rather liked Oscar Isaac's portrayal of Apocalypse, having immense power but primarily operating by tempting other strong mutants to follow him until the final confrontation. Quicksilver's showoff moment rivals if not beats his performance in DoFP. I'm generally liking the character arcs of the major players in the new timeline and I like how they set up the new generation (who were the mainstays of the original trilogy). One thing that surprised me was that the CG was a bit crappy in places, which was unexpected for a AAA release, but the effects are solid most of the movie. One thing worth noting is that I saw this on an airplane, where the two biggest dangers from the censors' point of view was all the blasphemy surrounding Apocalypse and Olivia Munn's cleavage. Yes, really. If you've been holding out like was, I'd say there's not that much to worry about. You may not be sold on it 100%, but it's still worth a watch in my book.
