Tucker and Dale vs. Evil (2010)
Director: Eli Craig
Starring: Tyler Labine, Alan Tudyk, Katrina Bowden
Synopsis:
Two hillbillies go to a dilapidated cabin in the woods. A flock of co-eds go camping. It's a recipe for terror and mayhem. Those poor hillbillies never saw it coming.
Impressions:
This film is a delightful inversion of the hillbilly horror subgenre. The trailer was enough to sell me on the idea and the movie delivers. Sometimes I begin to wonder if filmmakers have forgotten how parody and subversion actually work based on a lot of the tripe that comes out masquerading under that label, but movies like this restore my faith a little.
Tyler Labine and Alan Tudyk do a fine job as the eponymous Tucker and Dale. They have a good dynamic going and plays out well with the story. The batch of college kids do their part well too.
By the by, when there's a flashback to 20 years ago, and they're playing 90s music, I wanted to say, "That's so anachronistic. It should be 70s music that's playing." Then I caught myself and felt old. -_-;
This is a fun little movie that turns a common trope on its head. If the trailer piques your interest, you won't regret watching it.
