Impressions:
I'm not much of a fan of the Tomb Raider franchise. Never really cared and besides briefly playing a demo of Tomb Raider 2, I haven't touched any of the games. I saw the first movie in the previous film continuity just because my battle buddy got it at the PX. All that being said, I have been mildly interested in the new direction of the franchise and being a fan of Alicia Vikander, this film came up on my radar. I didn't consider it a must-see in the theaters, but I thought it might make for a decent watch at a later date and my evaluation was correct. It's a fairly straight adaptation of the 2013 video game reboot and while not particularly outstanding, it's a solid action adventure film. Vikander handles the lead role well and I think she was well-cast for the new version of Lara Croft as Angelina Jolie was for the old version. (That's not to say I especially liked the old version. I just think it fit.) I think fans of the 2013 game will appreciate it. It's worth seeing at the very least.
