The Take (2016)

Director: James Watkins
Starring: Idris Elba, Richard Madden, Charlotte Le Bon

Synopsis:
An insubordinate CIA agent reassigned to France is tasked with hunting down a suspected terrorist, only to find himself involved in a much larger plot.

Impressions:
We have a nice action thriller that pairs up Idris Elba and Richard Madden as a grizzled spy and a thief in over his head. I can't say any particularly new ground is being broken here, but it's not too shabby for what it is. As you'd expect, the action set pieces are solid and Idris Elba's performance is quite good. Now, if you want to mire yourself in the meta, you may or may not bristle at the fact that certain elements of society are seemingly absolved of any wrongdoing (which is pretty much inevitable in any major film production these days), but there are enough real-life bad actors among the acceptable targets that I'm not too willing to cut them much slack either. If you want a good action movie, you should be happy with this. Give it a watch.
