Spectre (2015)

Synopsis:
With the 00 program in jeopardy, James Bond pursues the clues to a mysterious organization known as SPECTRE.

Impressions:
When I saw this, I thought it was decent enough, so I was surprised to see a lot of the negative response it got. It would seem that by missing the highly acclaimed Skyfall, I didn't have expectations to be betrayed. The only other Daniel Craig Bond film I've seen all the way through is the even less well-received Quantum of Solace. I suppose that bringing in traditional elements of the Bond universe such as SPECTRE and Blofeld would be unwelcome to people who like the generally more grounded take in this generation of Bond films. I, however, am always up to having Christoph Waltz play the villain. Dave Bautista also provides a decent physical threat to Bond as Hinx. There are some good set pieces, particularly the opening sequence in Mexico, but I'll admit this isn't a particularly amazing film. There is something to be said for trying to tie the previous films together all in a single neat package, but you might find it a little too contrived. There are far worse Bond films, though, and I was reasonably entertained. Maybe if I ever get around to watching Skyfall my opinion will change, but in the meantime, I think this is at least worth checking out.
